What to expect

A four-day gathering for people building community-engaged work

Each year, Beautiful Social Research Collaborative brings together educators, scholars, writers, artists, and community practitioners in Northern New Mexico to develop community-engaged projects, programs, and partnerships.

The workshop draws on methods developed through more than a decade of Beautiful Social’s community-engaged writing and media work. Participants bring their own projects into a small learning community where we examine questions of power, reciprocity, community knowledge, and long-term capacity, then put those ideas into practice.

❋ A Community of Practitioners

Work alongside educators, scholars, writers, artists, activists, and community practitioners who are developing community-engaged work of their own.

❋ Designing for Justice

Examine how power moves through community projects and consider practical ways to center community knowledge, priorities, participation, and decision-making.

❋ Develop a Program or Project

Bring an existing idea or emerging project and use the workshop to strengthen its goals, relationships, and methods, and to think about what it can make possible for the community over time.

❋ Time to Think Together

Four days in Northern New Mexico create room for sustained conversation, reflection, writing, and relationship building, with a cohort that continues to exchange ideas after the gathering.
