Beautiful Social is excited to introduce you to another wonderful amazing non-profit organization we have been working with this semester! Meet: Young Involved Philadelphia, a civic engagement project in the Philadelphia area. Young Involved Philadelphia, also referred to as YIP, strives to get passionate, young leaders to join forces to create a promising future for the City of Brotherly Love. According to YIP’s website: “In late 2000, a small group of recent college graduates set out to harness the energy and enthusiasm of young Philadelphians in shaping the future of the city,” and they have not stopped since.
On September 18th, we first traveled to Center City to The Philadelphia Building to meet with some of the board members of YIP, and had the opportunity to hear more about their organization. Anna McCarthy went as the representative of the group and was accompanied by our fellow Sam Digiuseppe, who was both nervous and excited to ride the train into the city for the first time! Anna and Sam arrived to The Philadelphia Building where they met with board members. During the meeting it was easy to see how passionate they were and how they want to continue the growth of YIP. YIP expressed their desire to improve their social media outlets, especially for their upcoming event State of Young Philly.
The team was excited to get to work on creating strategies to improve YIP’s digital media presence. Together the Beautiful Social team members came up with a few things that needed to be done for this organization’s success in the digital media world: the creation of content for their Instagram, a strategy for active YIP members and goals for promoting their annual event State of Young Philly. They were receptive to working with Beautiful Social because like them, we are young individuals, wanting to improve our city. As consultants and inhabitants of Philly we have a personal connection to their mission.
Since our meeting, the SJU Beautiful Social consultants have been working hard to analyze YIP’s digital presence, create a social media strategy to help reach a broader audience, and help promote their week long annual event series, State of Young Philly (SOYP).This year’s SOYP will consist of events going on between the week of November 14th through the 22nd these events range from a civic engagement event to Twitter Chats to Quizzo all wrapping up with LOVEFest, a concluding fundraising gala. On October 29th two board members of Young and Involved Philadelphia, Kelly Cofrancisco and Christina Arlt, came to Saint Joseph’s campus and were able to discuss and present to them about our ideas for promoting State of Young Philly. We discussed utilizing the hashtag #SOYP14 in order for them to have a constant stream of feedback from the participants of these events. Also, the use of the hashtag will allow YIP to create a narrative blog post with the tweets from the attendees. The Beautiful Social team also gave them some parameters and suggestions on how they should strategize their Instagram content.
This is the essence of Beautiful Social. We worked hard and passionately to assist this group of people to promote social good and a to create a better Philadelphia. Working with YIP has not only allowed us to use our knowledge of digital media to give back to the community but it also opened our minds to the world of nonprofit organizations. The board members of Young Involved Philadelphia are young professionals that have full time jobs, and finds time to work on this incredible project to continue improving the City of Brotherly, love a place so many of us call home.
